Physical Therapy for Dancers and Participants In The Dance of Life

Facilitating Dancer Focused Care

Maribeth offers consultation services specific to the dancer patient. The movement of many forms of dance may pre-dispose one to a number of conditions not commonly seen in other populations. Maribeth is equipped to assess technique and movement quality to assure it is considered and integrated into the dancer’s treatment program. Custom exercise prescription to meet the demands of training and choreography is integral to her sessions. Maribeth will work symbiotically with a therapist you may be seeing for your weekly care and help infuse the dance specific components necessary to assure a complete rehabilitation experience.

Specialized Treatment Approaches Include:

Dry Needling

this modality uses fine filament needles inserted into muscles to facilitate healing of tissue, release of muscular tension, promote improved circulation to affected tissues, and stimulate the body’s return to homeostasis. Similarities with acupuncture include use of the same type of needle, but Dry Needling focuses on treatment of musculoskeletal disorders (as opposed to also treating visceral disorders) following principles of neuroanatomy (as opposed to a meridian system) to determine needle placement and affect results. These differences make it a distinctly different modality from acupuncture. Acupuncture is certainly a healing system which Maribeth and her staff also have great respect for. All current staff are certified in dry needling.

Spinal and Extremity Mobilization

including training in Maitland Approach and High Velocity Low Amplitude Thrust Techniques which offer effective means for restoring motion and decreasing pain. Integral to these techniques is the importance of listening to your patient to gain insight for developing the best treatment approach

Kinesiology Taping

specialized tapes which offer multiple applications from light support for postural corrections, to muscle facilitation or calming, to assisting with reduction of swelling

Australian Physiotherapy Pilates Institute (APPI) Mat Work Levels I through III

This premier brand of Pilates training in Europe and the UK is newly available in the United States. It was developed by physical therapists to assure that Pilates instruction incorporates the safest and most effective exercises with research based rationale. Special consideration is given on how to engage the deepest muscles of the core and protect the spine. It is the foundation for essentially all exercise programs at MCPT LLC.

Myofascial Release Techniques

fascia is the tissue that surrounds virtually every muscle and organ in our body. Understanding its structure and function is integral to developing a complete treatment program

Mulligan Concept

a whole body approach to joint mobilization which offers upright positions for spinal mobilization which may be advantageous to the acute patient with limited ability to tolerate lying down for treatment. It employs active participation by the patient to restore normal movement with improved joint mobility

Graston Technique

is a specialized myofascial approach which uses custom shaped steel instruments to assist with the freeing of scar tissue and fascial restrictions

APPI For Special Populations: Scoliosis, Running & Joint Hypermobility

APPI for Joint Hypermobility

We have extensive experience working with Patients with joint hypermobility, including those who fall into categories including Ehler’s Danlos Syndrome. Our APPI training further facilitates our ability to create customized exercise programs to meet the needs of this population.

APPI for Scoliosis

Patients with mild to moderate scoliosis (curves from 10 to 35 degrees in particular) have the potential to benefit greatly from integrating this exercise base into their treatment programs, whether scoliosis be their primary or secondary diagnosis.

APPI for Runners
